Globular Star Clusters

Globular Star clusters are massive concentrations of stars that orbit a common centre of gravity and are very tightly bound together; giving them their spherical shape and high stellar density.  In the southern hemisphere we are blessed with the biggest and brightest of all globular clusters; Omega Centauri. A 2 million star globular with a black hole at its centre.

The origins and galactic evolution of globular clusters is still unclear. For example, Omega Centauri has a bunch of massive hot blue stars that are younger than the other stars in the cluster, indicating these may have been captured and join the cluster at a later date.

Intrigue and mystery aside, likes check have a look at some Southern Hemisphere delights.
